Teaching bible verse to kids – The story of wise and foolish builders (Matthew 7: 24-27)

Hello everyone!! How’s everybody’s long weekend?

The 3 days off have literally been a whirlwind for me. So many things to do, that I forgot I was assigned to do the Friday teaching. My bad! Buti na lang teacher Jen was very efficient of reminding us of our schedule.

When I read her message I hurriedly open my email to see the lesson . I don’t have much time of preparation na so I need to improvise things.Swerte coz the topic is quite easy to discuss with kids. Swerte din kasi hubby printed and even helped me in preparing all the paper houses for our memory verse activity.

Our topic: The story of the wise and foolish builders (Matthew 7: 24-27)

Aim: To show the children that as Christians, we need to build our lives on Jesus Christ, so that when trouble comes we will be able to stand firm with faith in God.

I used little A’s toys..playdough and lego works well..

Presentation: In this passage Jesus used a parable to explain how we want to built our foundation with him. The story tells us about a man who builds his house upon a rock.  Think about what a rock is and what it feels like.  It is very strong and sturdy.  Jesus is like a rock.  When we have Jesus in our lives it is like we are standing on a rock.  We are not going to fall down when Jesus is holding us up.  We have to rely on Jesus with every part of our lives.  If we do rely on Jesus, He will not let us fall.

The second part of this story is about a man who built his house on the sand.  What is sand like?  It is squishy and it moves when you walk on it.  The world is like sand.  When we build our lives on whatever we want, but not Jesus, it is like standing on the sand.  When life is hard the foundation we are standing on gets squishy and we will fall down.  Without Jesus we fall down.  The foolish man’s house fell down when the storm came.

For review I asked the kids few questions like:

  • What did the wise man build his house upon?  The Rock
  • What did the foolish man build his house upon? The Sand
  • In our lives, who is really the Rock? Jesus

I also told them that like wise man if we listen to his word and put it into practice no matter what troubles we may encounter, Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us.

Memory Verse: Matthew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

kids in action

For the activity, each of them decorate their own house. And when they’re done we helped them to assemble the house by gluing each side of the paper. Hubby was very supportive and he’s really helping me with the needs of the kids. That’s why I always encouraged him to try Kids Ministry kasi it’s very challenging and fulfilling, right teachers???

First aid for the soul (Jesus Band – Aid Envelope Craft)

After a short vacation from Kids Ministry because of my current condition, finally I was able to teach again last Friday.

Our topic is Jesus is our healer. Since I was assigned in preparing activity for the kids, I thought of giving each child a set of First Aid envelope or should I say Jesus Band – Aid. Inside the envelope were 7 sticker labels. On each sticker label the kids can write a simple note or a short prayer for a person to help them with hard situations they might find themselves.

There are Jesus- Aids for people who are sad, scared, worried, sick or hurt and tired.

Children can give the sticker labels to people who need them.

Teaching bible verse to kids – Jesus Calms the Storm

Lesson: God Gives…The Gift of Peace

Aim: That the children will know that because Jesus actually LIVES IN US, WE CAN TRUST Him at all times. To care for us and gives us peace in times of trouble.

Opening idea: For more interaction with the kids, I asked them if they ever experience storm or thunder. As expected they are all excited to answer. Some said when they visited Philippines and its rainy season. Then, I asked them how do they feel/react every time they can hear thunder? Most of them said they were scared while some of them co-sleep with their parents. Lastly, I asked them if they think that Jesus can calm the storm? Seeing their puzzled faces, I knew I hit the button right.

Kids loves visual demonstration so I always opted of creating something special to make it more appealing to them.

Story: Jesus calms the storm (Mark 4: 35- 41)

Some of the highlights of the story that needs to be stress out to the kids are:

  • Jesus invite his disciples and decided to cross the lake
  • It was calm when they set sail, but a sudden storm hit the boat. The sea waves was so rough that the waves were crashing over the boat, filling it with water.
  • Since Jesus was very tired after a full day of walking and preaching, he slept in the boat and did not wake when the storm hit.
  • The disciples were very frightened.

At this stage, I paused for a while to involve the kids by asking them question- What if they were the disciples what do they think would do. Some said that they will pray, some said they will call Jesus. After hearing their answers, I proceeded.

  • The disciples thought Jesus didn’t care and they woke him up.
  • Jesus awoke and spoke to the wind then He spoke to the sea and the storms became calm.

For memory verse – I prepared a simple craft. Origami boat craft fit well for the story. To be honest, I really don’t know how to do origami craft but the night before I watched it you tube para I can teach the kids. Oh Yes, The kids went crazy when I told them that we will make a boat out of paper. Hubby was with me so he helped me in assisting the kids.

Teaching bible verse to kids – Joshua 24:15

The weather here in UAE is approaching the near-perfect temperatures.

Hubby and I are planning to have BBQ party with DH family but we can’t find the right time. Hopefully our schedule and their schedule will meet this coming holiday.

It’s time to get out the house and make the most of the winter weather.Wooohooo!!

On the other news, I was assigned again to teach the Level 1-Pre school last Friday. And our topic is “God blesses the family who obey him”.

If there is one person that surely demonstrate the love, trust and honoring God without thinking what will happen to him,his family and his possessions is none other than Abraham.

If you can open your bible in Genesis 12 you can read ” The Call of Abraham”

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing,I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all people on earth will be blessed through you.

To make it entertaining for the kiddos – I recycled the old desk calendar and turned into storybook.

I am trying my best to present each lesson in an interesting way.Using the storybook is easier and more convenient for kids. I asked them to form a circle while I am in front so all of them can see and listen carefully on the story of Abraham.

For the memory verse it’s Joshua 24:15 (But as for me and my household we will serve the Lord”).

Upon reading the verse I came up with the idea of creating door sign. So,every time they will open the door of their house each families will be reminded that we must TRUST.HONOR.OBEY and SERVE God.I thought of explaining to the kids that obeying God starts within the house and family member.

I’ve purchased stickers from Day to Day. The girls and boys will share with the flowers and dinosaurs. I’ve found ribbon on my stash so I stapled it to the paper house and let the kids be creative.

My co-teacher Eva was so delighted seeing kids focusing with their own artworks.

What a joy being a blessing to others!!

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!!

Teaching Bible verse to kids (Exodus 2:15-22)

Well hello there! I hope you all have a chance to spend some fun time with family and friends last weekend.Albeit, everyone is back in the swing of back-to-work routines now, and life is getting busier than ever.

We had a great weekend that I can’t wait to share.

As you all know I am part of Kids Ministry in our church and last Friday I had the privileged to teach the Level 1 – Preschool. The class was mainly  between the age of 5-6 years old.

Our lesson is about “Helping people in need”. In this lesson the best example to impart the values of helping was the biblical chapter of Exodus 2: 15-22. The chapter is how Moses defends the lady shepherd.

Just a quick kwento – When I was preparing my lesson my sister and hubby saw the props I will use supposedly for Friday and they make lait as in they were laughing. I can’t blame them kasi originally I printed images which is not age appropriate. Don’t get wrong but the only images I’ve found in google are mostly paintings. Since Thursday was a busy day for me at work I didn’t have the chance to research which obviously is not an excuse. So after all tha lait and kutya – (which I must say is my realization point!) I came up with another idea. It really helps when you’re praying and trusting God to help you in times of cramming. When your mind can’t think and all you have to do is surrendered to HIM and trust that everything will work according to his plan.

That’s where the idea of story telling came up. I remember my sister keeps on reminding me ‘ate yung props mo nmn parang greyego tsaka parang di ikaw yan”.

I used materials readily available in our home. Tissue rolls, clothes pin, clip arts and even little A’s coloring books.

And here’s what I end up:

I’m up till 2 am just to finish my lesson. It was tiring yet very fulfilling. When I’m done I feel so relieved. Ang kyoot ng result.

For memory verse I printed two faces (boy and girl). My plan is – I will ask the kids on what will they feel if they help people who are in need. Will they follow Moses example on defending the daughters of Jethro from a bad male shepherds? Does helping others is a happy feeling?

I made sure to make it simple for them to understand the verse (Proverbs 11:25) Helped others, and you will be helped..

Come Friday afternoon and everything was set. My lesson and the kids. My co-teacher Jenny was in-charge for the application and food distribution.

The verdict – It was a huge success! Not because of me but because God gave me wisdom to teach to these little creatures about hiswords. They loved how I demonstrated the story. Whenever I will changed the tone of my voice you can see they are giggling and laughing. When I asked them if they will offer help when they see a person in need they all agreed and said yes! They said that it is happy to help and it will be pleasing to daddy God’s eyes. And also when I’m about to give the characters no one took home the bad shepherds. Ayaw da nila kasi bad guys!

And for the drawing – they all created a happy faces. Oh yes, not to mentioned, they are all excited to get a star..

What a blessing to be part of Kids Ministry.
