Back to School

It’s back-to-school at our house this week! And I am so busy prepping all of little A’s school supplies. Last Monday we’ve purchased everything to his school.

We were given two sets for everything from art supplies to notebook. We were reminded that all items must be clearly labeled or they will be returned.

Five days and counting for us! So I definitely have back to school in my brain! He’s nervous and excited… and so am I. 🙂

Make Summer Memories Last – Kids Ministry Summer Workshop

It’s hard to believe that there’s just two days left until the end of August and the Summer is almost over!

And before the month kicks off I am so proud to share to you guys the activities we did last July.
During a particularly hot and humid month earlier this summer the Kids Ministry held a fun-filled summer experience through a variety of creative learning workshops that developed the artistic skills, talents, gifting’s and abilities of children in the field of Singing, Dancing, Arts & Crafts and Musical Instrument Playing.

Honestly, the 4 weeks of exposing them to a various activities gives them a chance to individually discover their innermost talents and gifts.

It is our job of prepping the kids a lifetime of learning…and trying to make it fun the process!

To end the summer with a BANG! Here’s a quick overview of the Summer Workshop!

Kudos to all faithful and dedicated teachers who devoted their time to hone the skills of the children. And to all the mentors who shared their experience and knowledge to all the children who dream of serving GOD using their talents.

Pregnancy update @ 27 weeks..

Hi everyone! The rains have finally let up. Let’s cross our fingers it will stay this way and that the sun will shine in the Philippines.
As per the news eighty-three towns and cities in Luzon, including Metro Manila, were placed under a state of calamity after these areas were submerged by floods caused by three days of southwest monsoon (hanging habagat) rains, enhanced by tropical storm “Maring,” leaving at least 15 dead and affecting over one million people, officials said yesterday.

Let’s continue to pray for our country and for those who are affected by the rains and floods that they may feel God’s grace, too.

Anyhow, just to give you a quick pregnancy update. I am now on my 27th week.

How i’m feeling: Great – he’s getting so big… it’s hard to believe we’re already this far along!

Total Weight Gain: not sure – last checked I didn’t gain… probably because I am on a diet. I need to control my food intake to normalize my sugar. In fact, my OB recommended to see Endocrinologist after seeing sugar in my urine. I had my OGTT and the result was above normal. The Endocrinologist asked me to submit my weekly result to make sure that I will not end up with insulin shot. So every after two hours of eating I need to check my sugar. Masakit na nga daliri ko kakaprick.huhu

Well, for this month naman I’ve been a good girl na. I stopped eating rice and switched to wheat bread. So far the results is getting better. I am trying to control din ung mga sweets..pero in times of craving for rice I ate pero as in super kunti lang..

Maternity Clothes: lots of dresses

Gender: a BOY…

Movement: The movement was constant. Now that he’s getting bigger, I think he may be starting to run out of move. But I still feel his wiggling around in there.

Sleep: Can’t sleep last night medyo matigas at masakit ung tyan ko..parang he’s staying in just one side then sobrang tigas. We are talking to him nga asking him na”galaw-galaw din pag me time”..hahaha

What I miss: sleeping on my tummy and in lying position..

Cravings: so far wala naman..

Symptoms: just some slight discomfort in urinating that’s why hubby checked my urine and as expected I am positive to UTI. I emailed the result to my OB and I am just waiting for her instruction. While waiting I increased my water intake na din.But truly, nothing major!

Best moments this week:
I scoured Medela Breast Pump at Babyshop. They are on 50-70% off. I chose the electric breast pump para pagbalik ng work it will be easy for me to pump in our office. I also asked my colleague to buy Natalac supplements. I am planning to take it on my 36 weeks. It will to stimulate my body to produce more milk. Yes I am so positive this time that I can do exclusive breastfeeding and I am glad that hubby is supporting me.

Looking forward to:
I know this sounds crazy… but that 30 week mark!
Praying na matuloy ang first ever maternity shoot ko..Thanks to Karisma Yu for volunteering.

I can’t believe we are already getting this far along, this baby boy is going to be here before we know it!

Little A and his worksheet

I hope everyone is safe, dry and warm on this rainy Monday!

While most of us of them were at home, awaiting news on the weather let’s continue to pray for the safety of all Filipinos in our country. Super lakas ng ulan and sobrang baha na daw. Some of the classes were suspended na nga since yesterday. I just hope walang masyadong nasalanta and nasaktan!!

On the brighter side, I am happy to share that little A is now interested in writing. In fact he can write na the alphabet. We just need to work with some of the letters like C and U in which he’s insisting on writing it with straight lines. Actually he can write na din his full name eh sobrang haba pa naman ng name nia..hehe

O sia babush muna at deadline ng magazine today!

Pretend Play – Cupcakes

After seeing that I was pretty sure that little boy would LOVE to play baking with mommy. I set up our baking activity.

One small twist was instead of actual cupcakes I created a more of a pretend play set up.Ironically little A made this one into a counting and sorting activity.

Now for the fun part. I gave the bag to little A hoping that he will like it and boy I was right!  It was an instant hit!!
This is what we baked according to him – strawberry, vanilla, blueberry, grass flavour ( because the grass daw is color green), lemon and lastly mocha pretend cupcakes.

Don’t they look realistic and delish?

What we really loved about this pretend cupcakes is that we were able explore the possibilities through playing, practice the ideas and develop his imagination.

Kudos for play based learning.

Teaching bible verse to kids – Psalm 23-1 “Jesus is our Shepherd…

Happy Sunday everyone!

Here are some playful activities to introduce obeying and trusting God to our children in ways that will really get their attention.

Today I am excited to share to you guys our activity last Friday.

Our lesson is Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”.

And what better way to teach kids about being Jesus Little Sheep than to incorporate it into their everyday play!

When Teacher Eva and I discussed the lesson, we agreed that she will be doing the story-telling and I will discuss the memory verse.

On the day of teaching we have 18 kids in total and we are all happy that we have enough teachers who will assist the kids in doing arts and crafts. We all agreed to combined Level 1 and level 2 since there are only 5 kids in Level 1

Our aim is to teach kids about trusting GOD in our everyday life. We tried to explain that “I shall not want” means that God will take care of all of our needs.  – Because as we trust HIM we are also obeying HIM.

For easy understanding of the verse Psalm 23:1-6, I made Teacher Eva a visual illustration of the verse using tissue rolls and cotton balls for the sheep.

Kids will always be kids! And they always get excited every time they see something new.

For memory verse – I asked them to make sheep and reflect on God as our Shepherd.

20130811-100701.jpg

After they are done with their sheep, we let the kids to have a moment of reflection by encouraging them to  share this verse with their parents when they pick them up so their parents will be able to help them practice at home. I printed sticker labels that has Psalm 23:1 written on it and stick at the back of the paper plate.

20130811-100905.jpg
They are all enjoying playing their sheep on the green pasture..
20130811-100944.jpg
While we are busy assisting kids I heard that kids who are done with their artwork are busy playing on the green pastures and they are making sounds. At first I thought mali lang ako ng dinig but when everybody were making noise of saying “MEE-MEE”. I was laughing at them and remind them that the sound of the sheep is “BAA..BAA..”. I guess teachers will agree that we all had a fun time teaching these kiddos..
20130811-100959.jpg
Special thanks to Teacher Eva, Teacher Annie and Teacher Rossette..

.As the children leave, we reminded them their sheep and say, “Take this home and put it in a special place that you can see everyday. This sheep will remind you that God is our Shepherd and He loves His little sheep deeply!”

Summer Activity – R is for Rainbow Collage

Good morning everyone! I hope we are all enjoying our long weekend. It’s only 5:30 am here in UAE but can’t go back to sleep, baby wiggle is keep on kicking and moving inside. Deadmahin ko sana kaso parang I feel hungry din so here I am eating and blogging.

Anyhoo, did I mentioned here that little A is a good composer? Yes, he like music though most of his songs are composed by him. Minsan nga nagugulat kami from where his getting his lyrics.

One of his hit song to us is inspired by his fascination to rainbow colors and pancake. The song is entitled “Wehoo”. And the song goes like this.

“Wehoo..Wehoo
Eating rainbow pancake
Red,Orange,Yellow,Green,Blue,Indigo and Violet..”

He will sing this song with matching dikit pisngi to our face.

And since he like the song so much I didn’t prepare cooking activity but rather let him made a rainbow collage.

This activity is the perfect craft for a hot summer day. It is a great lesson in color recognition and fine motor skills.

I set up large paper filled with bright crepe paper cuttings. If the crepe paper is not available you may use whatever bits and pieces you have at home. You could also use buttons, poms-poms or scrap from magazine.

I made the rainbow pattern from MS Word and gave the print out to little A. That makes him giggle and excited.

He used all the crepe paper bits to fill in the rainbows, and then and glued on some cotton ball clouds. Same procedure applied to letter R.

A very neat idea yet so entertaining for kids..

Have a lovely weekend everyone!!

Presenting our Rainbow Collage..

Summer activity- Puffy Rainbow Painting

Today is holiday here in UAE. It’s a first day of Eid which means we will have a long weekend.

Now, for the artsy activity we did this morning. We tried to make homemade puffy paint.
I’ve been wanting to make Puffy paint for a while now so when little A mentioned that he wanted us to make a rainbow painting, I knew that this will be the best time to do it.
I wanted to keep the surprise element for the moment but he was so excited to help. Why not! this will be a great color exploration and a good example of sensory skills.

20130808-143452.jpg

20130808-143656.jpg

20130808-143859.jpg
Making Puffy Paint is easy peasy and the result – not just fun, beautiful but also colorful.
All the ingredients are generally available in every kitchen.
Out of one batch, I intended to make six portions in six different colors.
I set aside two cups of flour in a bowl. Mixed five teaspoons baking powder and two teaspoon salt. To this I added enough water so as to get a thick pouring consistency.
We divided our mix into six parts and put them into Ziploc baggies along with some food coloring. Part of the fun was squishing it all around to mix up the colors!

20130808-144447.jpgRubber band the baggies like you would if you were icing a cake and cut little bit of the tip.

20130808-144918.jpg

20130808-145118.jpg

Paint away! When you’re finished, pop the painting into the microwave for 30-45 seconds and watch the paint puff up and grow – such fun!

20130808-151214.jpg
We still have plenty of paint leftover that we can still use this afternoon.
Nothing beats cheap entertainment, especially with some fine motor skills practice and a dash of sensory skills.

Little A as Little Juan Dela Cruz..

In few days from now Ramadan will be over which means we will be back from our usual office timings..Sadness!! Actually we are still hoping that Eid will fall on Thursday para naman atleast di kami lugi and we can still enjoy long weekend before it ends. Hoping!!

Back to our pirate activity, this time we created a pirate sword. When were done with our sword little A noticed that the sword looks like the sword of Juan Dela Cruz. And because of that he doesn’t want to be pirate na!
He said he’s little Juan Dela Cruz and he will fight for the monster daw.
Then he realized that there’s something missing with his weapon, he asked me if I can make him Bow and Arrow same as in the series. Hay naku I really don’t have plan of creating one kasi I don’t know how to do it but he’s so persistent.

Little A – Mommy, can you make me Bow and Arrow so I can be a hero?

Mommy – I am not that crafty, I don’t know how will I do it. Let me think first ok.

Little A – You’re not my best friend now! You’re not helping me!

Mommy – Just because I can’t do your Bow and Arrow were not best friends? That’s unfair!

Little A – Yes mommy! Now I am sad because of you! (showing his super arteng emote)

After 15 minutes of analysing how will I manage to do his request, I gave in! I made him Bow and Arrow made from carton box and rubber bands. You should see his face when he saw that I am working on his Bow and Arrow. And the good news is I did it!! hahaha..never estimate talaga the power of being a mother!

After handling the Bow and Arrow to little A –

Mommy – Here’s your another weapon! The Bow and Arrow

Little A – Your the best mom! Thank you for making my Bow and Arrow! (sabay kiss)

Now how can you say no to this little boy!! Awwww! The joy of having a son!

Presenting The Espada ng Katapangan (Sword of Bravery) and The Pana ng Kagitingan (Bow of Wisdom).
