Exploring with sounds – Rainbow Water Xylophone

Today I’m sharing a quick and fun activity you can do with your kids. We’re exploring sound with a rainbow water xylophone.

Such a simple activity idea, but it was a total hit in our house!

To make a water xylophone using spice bottles:

We filled the spice bottles with varying amounts of water and added liquid food coloring to the bottles. Each bottle held a different color of the rainbow to make a rainbow water xylophone – it was a fun color mixing activity as well.

It was fun to see their expressions as they realized they could make a sound on the bottles. Even better was watching them make a little tune, singing and dancing to the beat of the xylophone! This is one activity that they will remember for a long time to come.
