When Inigo began to take an interest in food I was absolutely delighted, I couldn’t wait to get started. I read Baby Led Weaning through Breastfeeding Pinays. I did my research and then talked to hubby of planning to try the BLW approach to Inigo.
You may asked what is Baby Led Weaning approach? Well, it is simply means letting your child feed themselves from the very start of weaning. You just hand them the food in a suitably-sized piece and if they like it they eat it and if they don’t they won’t. That’s the essence of Baby Led Weaning. No purees, no ice cube trays, no food processor, no potato masher, no baby rice, no weird fruit and vegetable combos. Just you and your child eating food that you enjoy.
We are now in the second week of introducing solid food to Inigo, it’s not an easy journey a lot of “Kaba” for the first try but eventually makakasanayan mo din. Like what the other mommies are saying “you just have to trust you baby” they will spit it if they can’t really swallow the food. If there’s gagging don’t panic kaya ng baby yan.
The rule of thumb of starting a solid food to baby is 3:1 – Offer one food for three days, to see whether the baby will react to the food or whether it will cause constipation or diarrhea.
What I loved about BLW is his enthusiasm as he experiences different flavours and textures. So far he has loved everything we’ve offered, especially veggies!
Happy 6th months my loves. May we both learn and enjoy the new phase of eating solids.
